Abstract
Execution of a turnkey engineering project invariably requires close co-ordination among many independent entities both within and outside the organisation. The greater the number of such entities, the more skilful and effective is the co-ordination required. However, when a project is undertaken in a transnational environment and more than 10 nationalities are involved, if this is coupled with an extremely short time required to complete the project from grass root stage, the execution becomes more exciting and challenging. The authors describe their experience in the late 1970s of executing a turnkey power project in Saudi Arabia, where all such variables were present. This paper describes some of the methods adopted to execute this project in a transnational environment, and how some of the project management problems were overcome
