Abstract
Many developing countries have lost their economic and competitive position in the world today. They lack the strong transport infrastructure, power generating capabilities and the telecommunications network necessary for efficiently conducting commerce, international trade and social and economic development. Privatisation and liberalisation of most of the key sectors including the telecommunications sector, must be carefully examined to ensure that privatisation brings full economic and social benefits to everyone. With this change, effective policies must be implemented for all these sectors. The paper examines some of these policy issues and strategies for the telecommunications industry
