Abstract :
Coincident collection of multisensor data is a scarce resource, often difficult to achieve both technically and for cost reasons. At the same time, the availability of such well-truthed, coincident collections is often a determinant in the success of fusion algorithm development programs. Eastman Kodak Company´s Commercial and Government Systems Division undertook such an effort with the objectives of collecting both hyperspectral imagery (HSI) and high-resolution color film imagery (CFI) over Mobile, Alabama. The utility of this collect was then evaluated against a portfolio of commercial and defense-related applications. Aircraft flew multiple tracks over the city and surrounding environment of estuaries, forests, industrial and agricultural areas. Collection targets included harbor facilities, urban complexes, forest insect infestations, and non-indigenous plant infestations. The hyperspectral and color film collects were registered in time and position with flight navigation techniques, ground tracking and ground positional references. Spectral data was supplemented with ground truth collections resulting in a large and useful dataset for algorithm development for a variety of applications.
