Abstract :
Concurrent engineering (CE), also called simultaneous engineering, results from synthesising two fundamental observations. The first is that changes become more and more costly, the later in a project they are done and the second is that doing the different steps of a project in parallel i.e. simultaneously or concurrently gets the project done faster. CE breaks down departmental barriers it involves a multifunction team and integrates concepts and technique of design for manufacturing (DFM), quality function deployment (QFD), continuous process improvement (CPI) and total quality management (TQM) to achieve high quality output in the shortest time. The paper elucidates the concepts, advantages and implementation of concurrent engineering and further discusses its application in turnkey engineering project management
