Abstract
We introduce a novel technique to monitor optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) in optical transport networks using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The experiments show that the method has high accuracy and large dynamic range. The error is less than 0.5 dB for OSNR between 10 dB to 40 dB in the best case. The key advantage of this method is its low cost.
