Abstract
Carbon emissions, carbon sinks and carbon flux of urban ecosystem in Xianning over the last decade were calculated. The results showed that annual carbon flux steadily increased from 1,570,411tons in 1996 to 7,514,089tons in 2008, especially after 2005 with the annual average growth rate of 51.1%. Carbon emissions from industry accounted for 79.6% carbon emissions in 1996, 94.5% in 2008, resulting from the rapid development of industry. Carbon emissions from natural processes and human respiration were relatively small According to two demographic ways to calculate Xianning per capita fossil-fuel CO2 emission compared with some of world´s countries´ in 2007, Xianning region developed unbalanced and the gap between urban areas and rural areas was very large. Besides, under the conditions of industrialized city, plants-related emissions and sinks could be ignored.
