Abstract :
In this paper, CuO was selected as a catalyst in the production of lactic acid from glucose under alkaline hydrothermal conditions. The addition of CuO can improve the yield of lactic acid efficiently. The highest yield of 37% was obtained under the optimum conditions, i.e., reaction temperature 300°C, reaction time 60 s, CuO 0.3 mmol and NaOH 2.5 M. An efficient method for producing lactic acid from glucose under hydrothermal conditions with CuO as a catalyst has been improved.
