Abstract :
An attractive approach to mi crowave frequency synthesis is presented, which allows to obtain very low near-carrier phase noise and fully frequency agility required for digital Satellite Communications. A highly modular VHF Multiloop Synthesizer (VMS) is used as reference frequency for a Samp1ed Microwave Loop (SML), wh ich is based on an efficient sampling technique, using different harmonics. This approach allows to simplify the microwave circuits, avoiding dividers, multipliers and frequency conversions. A microprocessor performs all the control functions for both VMS and SML.
