Abstract :
As part of an ongoing program to develop a high power mm-wave source for use on a mobile platform, CPI is developing two prototype gyrotrons designed to produce more than 2 MW of output power at a frequency of 95 GHz. The first prototype employs a cylindrical noncoaxial interaction circuit designed to operate in the TE22,6 mode, and is currently undergoing preliminary factory testing (discussed at the conference). The second prototype will be essentially identical to the first, but with the addition of a coaxial rod inserted through the center of the cavity. The motivation for this experiment, the implementation approach, and the simulations upon which the coaxial design is based will be discussed.
