Abstract :
In the very competitive world of high voltage power transformer manufacture, there is constant pressure to use insulating and magnetic materials more efficiently, to reduce size and overall material costs, and to design for ease of assembly to reduce manufacturing span times. At the same time, the ability to comply with customer specifications must not be compromised. The authors describe how, in order to help to achieve these aims, the authors use finite element (FE) software developed at the Alstom Research and Technology Centre (UK) specifically designed for use in the electrical power engineering industry
