Abstract :
Experiences of running a virtual group, in part, for well over one year and completely for over 6 months are described. The group is performing the same set of tasks now that it used to perform when all of the members of the group were co-located. These tasks include running large technical meetings with many participants, investigating emerging technologies and making architectural recommendations company wide, negotiating vendor contracts, providing internal talks within the company on computing technologies, working with applied research, and managing the activities of the group. Insights into technical, psychological, financial/business and emotional considerations are shared
