Abstract
We have been able to show using MAGIC (a 3-dimensional fully relativistic particle-in-cell code) simulations that the output characteristics of magnetrons can be significantly improved using the transparent cathode. To demonstrate the advantages of the transparent cathode we chose the well-known A6 magnetron geometry. At the University of New Mexico we are focusing magnetron operation in the short-pulse regime for reasons discussed. To verify our simulation results experimentally we use the electron beam accelerator "SINUS-6," details of which are outlined in the following section.
