Abstract
Strong motion records with engineering importance are selected from more than 400 Wenchuan Earthquake records with proper adjustment. Based on this, nonstationarity of intensity and frequency are researched in this paper in order to provide valuable reference for study on disaster mechanism and law of this earthquake. Using a piecewised envelope to analyze the nonstationarity and attenuation relation of intensity, it is found that the stationary segment is significantly longer. Then, the nonstationarity in frequency is discussed based on an exponential decay model of instantaneous frequency. It is shown that the decay speed of frequency is slower and the frequency band is quite wider.
