Abstract :
In this paper, a novel approach to generate a two-dimensional ultrasound field using an edge-connected crossed-electrode array containing nonlinear transducers such as electrostrictive or electrostatic transducers is proposed. The proposed transducer array permits the control of N Ã M elements at cross points with N + M signal channels. In addition, a method for generating drive signals for the array is also proposed. The results of computer simulations are demonstrated to show the feasibility of the array. The results of a preliminary experiment performed using a capacitive transducer array operating in air are also demonstrated.
