Abstract :
A variable-rate timing recovery technique which does not require a priori knowledge on the symbol rate is proposed. In order to estimate the unknown symbol rate, cross correlations between the received signal and signals at the filter bank outputs are utilized. The bandwidth uncertainty produced at the symbol rate estimation process is eliminated at the timing synchronization block. In addition, attempts to reduce the probability of the incorrect estimation have been made using a repeated estimation. From the simulation results, it is found that the proposed technique estimates the unknown symbol rate with an accuracy of 99.5%
