Abstract :
Personal communication systems and the demand for increased channel capacity requires a closer look to micro and pico cells, which play a significant role for mobile telecommunication systems of the second and third generation (DECT, DCS1800, UMTS). This paper presents channel characteristics for indoor systems operating in the 1800 MHz band if the base station is positioned inside and outside the building. Power delay profiles are measured using a pulse sounder showing an excellent time resolution. Path losses and delay spreads are used to characterise the channel and the statistics are given. DECT simulations are included to evaluate the system performance
