Abstract
This paper deals with the replacement of linear reactors, which are often used for reactive compensation on EHV long transmission lines by naturally saturated reactors. Besides a steady-state, smoother voltage control that such a change brings, the chief concern is to release the transmission line´s entire capacity to load supply. EMTP-ATP simulation results for a specific application of naturally saturated reactors at CHESF´s 500 kV power grid are shown in order to justify this proposal. The reactor´s mathematical model is also described in this paper as well as the methodology used to determine the set of the model´s parameters
