Abstract
This paper investigates fiber/coax video upgrades to the narrowband fiber-in-the-loop systems defined in Bellcore TR-NWT-000909. The coaxial distribution system transports a menu of analog broadcast, digital broadcast and digital switched channels. Two fiber/coax system configurations are considered, one transmitting both analog and digital channels over a single fiber, and the other using two fiber links separately optimized for analog and digital transmission. The engineering and economics of these hybrid analog/digital networks are compared with each other and with all-digital fiber/coax designs
