Abstract :
A novel method of extrapolation of saturation curves to zero field is proposed. The fraction of electrons escaping from recombination (f o) is determined. On the basis of published experimental data, the fo-value is evaluated for tracks of relativistic electrons in liquid xenon and liquid argon. The fraction of electrons escaping from recombination at zero field is quite considerable. The fraction of electrons escaping recombination at zero field in LXe is greater than in LAr. The value of fo depends on the particle energy in LXe
