Abstract :
Methods for studying the effect of ageing on the characteristics of transformer oil are considered. Field survey and modeling procedures are compared to define the insulation status. Accelerated tests via modeling are used to determine the suitability of using new oil or the characteristics of mixing oils under ageing. It is concluded that transformer oil can be periodically monitored during service by dielectric tests for maintenance purposes and/or gas-in-oil analysis for checking faults
