Abstract :
We present a new fusion algorithm based on a non-hierarchical fusion scheme. This new fusion algorithm uses a biologically inspired merging rule to combine multiple arbitrary sized sensor images into a single image without any parameter setting. Features from each individual sensor image are not only well retained in the fused image but also enhanced properly. Unlike the hierarchical fusion algorithms, the new algorithm does not suffer from frequency aliasing and no noise has been added to the fused image. The new algorithm is applicable to many different sensor images such as infrared (IR), TV, laser radar (LADAR) and synthetic aperture radar (SAR). It has been extensively and successfully tested on a verity of sensor data
