Abstract :
An attempt is made to study electrification simultaneously from both the solid and the liquid viewpoints. An experiment is reported in which both the ξ potential of the solid and the streaming current are measured. Initially, positive and negative ions must coexist in the same quantities within the liquid. The results obtained are interpreted by assuming that large numbers of negatively charged ions only are adsorbed at the inner Helmholtz plane
