Abstract
This paper presents the results of the study that evaluates the incorporation of FACTS technologies in the expansion planning process of the Colombian National Transmission System (NTS). The application methodology uses as a starting point the optimization of the exploitation of the existing system by increasing its transmission capacity and it is based on steady-state analysis. The results of the feasibility study are also presented for a wide application of FACTS systems in the Colombian Transmission System, for improving transmission capabilities and reliability and security levels after year 2005
