Abstract :
The paper presents an efficient implementation of the baseband functions for the Japan Digital Cellular (JDC) handheld (or mobile) unit. This three ICs implementation includes a digital signal processor (DSP), an application specific IC (ASIC) and an off-the-shelf voice codec. Design considerations, as well as performances are presented, for various baseband functions that include the modem and the voice coder
