Abstract :
In this paper we proposed experimental paradigm in order to investigate the drivers´ visual information process based on eye movements and the driver´s operations to safely control a vehicle. The experimental environment for the aim was constructed with the driving simulator and the eye camera. A mixed design was employed for this study. The between-factor was driving experience which was defined based on the training time in the USA course. The experiments were conducted in order to compare the eye movement characteristics during driving in both Japan and USA courses. It is confirmed as the experimental results that the number of saccades decreased and the fixation duration became longer during driving in the trained group than the untrained group. These results suggested that driving task the familiarity of the driving environment and driver´s experience effected to the driver´s eye movement.
