Abstract
Program updating in switching systems is becoming more frequent because of the addition of new facilities or the modification of existing facilities. In program updating, however, several problems exists. These problems include service interruption or stoppage; some approaches against them have been proposed. Another problem for packet switching systems is packet loss. We discuss the difficulties in dynamic program updating for packet switching, and propose an approach that does not cause disconnections nor packet loss of users. Not only for packet switching, this approach is also applicable to other ISDN switching systems. We also report an implementation of this approach, and discuss its feasibility
