To understand soil erosion characteristics on different gradient of different land cover types in karst mountain area of southwest China, 16 process tests of soil erosion simulation were carried out according to land surface features and meteorological data in this region. The results showed that with the increase of gradient, the runoff ratio of bare and vegetation-covered (40%) soil increased, which was between 0.2%~13.6%, while the runoff ratio of rocks-covered (30%) and vegetation-rocks covered (40%-30%) soil decreased, which was between 0.15%~1.5%. An amount of sediment transport increased with the increase of gradient in bare and rocks-covered (30%) soil, which was between 21%~101.1%, and which increased at first then decreased with the increase of gradient in vegetation-covered (40%) and vegetation-rocks covered (40%-30%) soil. The total erosion amount increased with the increase of gradient in bare and rocks-covered (30%) soil, and there was not a critical gradient of soil erosion between 26° ~ 36°, and the erosion amount increased at first then decreased with the increase of gradient in vegetation-covered (40%) and vegetation-rocks covered (40%-30%) soil, there was a critical gradient of soil erosion between 26° ~ 36°.
