Abstract :
Two approaches are available to detect partial discharge (PD) from power cable insulation-online and offline detection systems. The online system is based on detecting PD at the system operating voltage, while elevated voltages are used to initiate PD in the offline approach. This paper presents the fundamentals of PD measurements. It also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of each approach
