  • Abstract
    Summary form only given, as follows. Recently, significant progress has been made in technical aspect as well as business wise in Plasma Display Panel (PDP). Burst of the market enabled the PDP manufacturer to decide easily on the construction of their next generation fabrication line. PDP production in 2002 exceeded 800,000 units, more than doubling the previous year´s production. It is expected that the market size of the PDP in 2005 may reach 7 million units per year, averaging 108% annual growth rate. Major cost reduction enabled this kind of huge market growth. Drastic improvement of the luminous efficiency resulted from the better discharge efficiency and light usage within the cell, greatly contributed to the cost reduction. Luminous efficiency close to 2 lm/W has been reported for the commercial products, while more than 4 lm/W also has been reported for the test panel Focus is given to the recent technical and business progress.
