Abstract :
We propose an asymmetric quantum well semiconductor optical amplifier in which the wider bandgap quantum wells act as carrier-reservoirs replenishing carriers in narrower quantum wells of the active region. 10 Gbps pattern-effect free gain was demonstrated.
