Abstract :
A demand driven access (ADDA) protocol for a dual ring architecture with spatial reuse is presented. The proposed protocol is simple and distributed. Under light load conditions, the arbitration mechanism is dormant and allows for efficient use of the available bandwidth since no overhead is incurred. The spatial reuse of the ring considerably increases the potential throughput of the network. The ADDA protocol, via simulation, is shown to outperform FDDI and MetaRing both in terms of throughput and access delay
