Abstract :
Fiber optic subsystems for local area networks (LANs) are discussed, focusing on the need to achieve interoperability in a multivendor environment. The author explores performance and specification issues for fiber optic LAN subsystems. Modeling, based on both fast Fourier transforms and Gaussian equations, is used to show parameter sensitivity tradeoffs, design limits, and contributions to channel distortion and jitter
