  • Abstract
Summary form only given, as follows. Summary form only given. Helicon plasmas are well known as its high plasma density. High density plasmas can be generated with the radiofrequency (RF) antenna outside of the dielectric tube and axial, magnetic field. From standpoints of no contamination problem from the antenna and high plasma density in source region, the helicon plasma source can be a good candidate for H/sup -/ volume source. The magnetic configuration for helicon plasma generation has to be considered for H/sup -/ beam extraction. Feasibility of the helicon negative ion source has been studied with plasma characteristics and new magnetic configurations Conceptually compact helicon plasma source is designed for H/sup -/ ion source.
