Abstract :
Based on PWV (Precipitable Water Vapor) data from the ground-based GPS (Global Positioning System), weather station´s ground data and NCEP grid reanalysis dataset, the transport process of water vapor during the “7.17” heavy rainfall in Chongqing of 2007 is studied. The important role of remote sensing water vapor of the ground-based GPS (precipitable water vapor) is analyzed. It is shown that the correlation between the PWV from GPS and the PWV from radiosondes is very good. The rapidly changing information of PWV can be obtained by ground-based GPS. The rapid change of PWV reflects the rapid change of water vapor transfer, which could be used for the monitoring of the generation and development of the heavy rainfall.
