Title :
Station interconnection on dual rings and other multichannel networks

Abstract :
The author describes an algorithm for interconnecting stations on multichannel networks. The algorithm is completely distributed and requires no global information. An immediate application is in a two-channel network, a dual ring with single-media-access-control stations. There are also important applications in networks consisting of two or more local area networks, such as those with hot backups. Two variations of the algorithm are presented: the general algorithm and a simplified version optimized for two-channel networks. It is concluded that the proposed approach will facilitate configuration by reducing restrictions and the need for correct global data. It will also reduce the chances of miswiring a network, which improves the network´s availability
