Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. The discharge phenomena in the reset period of an AC PDP are as important as for a sustain discharge. The precondition of the reset period is ´stability´ and reset methods can be compared with each other regarding ´background luminance´, ´address margin´ and ´time´. We have developed a new reset method named RMSP (ramp biased multiple short pulse) reset method. The pulses of very short width down to 200ns are added to the fast ramp voltage. We have verified the performance of the RMSP reset method by experiments. Full driving signals were applied to the 6 inch panel. As the probability of an abnormal discharge spot increased from the slope of 7.5V/us in the case of RMSP, all the experiments are performed in the region of a 5V/us ramp bias slope. The background luminance is reduced to 66% of a normal ramp reset pulse case and 215/spl mu/s of time is saved. We have used a simulation method and an analytic method using VTC to analyze the fundamentals of the enhancement in reset performance.
