Abstract
The same general principles that form the foundation of assessment in the traditional classroom apply to assessment in the online environment. Yet the unique capabilities of the online learning environment make performance assessments increasingly attractive by providing options for types of assessment activities that were previously impossible or too cumbersome. Therefore, the movement to online education requires that educators design new assessment strategies to suit the particular characteristics and capabilities of a new medium
