Abstract :
In this paper we consider random access communication with mixed voice and data over broadcast channel. Finite delay constraint of the voice class leads to prioritization of voice over data packets. Also the alternate active-silent nature of voice conversation calls for interpolation of data in speech. This adds an extra dimension to the random access problem. The interpolation, however, improves delay and throughput performances of the data class. With more than two classes, the analysis of the protocol becomes too complicated. However, simulation results with one voice class and two data classes demonstrate the promise of the protocol for heterogeneous classes of traffic
