Multimedia Metadata Management and Retrieval: 8th Workshop of the Multimedia Metadata Community

In times of ubiquitous access to the internet multimedia systems utilizing networks gains more and more importance. Multimedia systems support features beyond the download and display of videos and images:Adaptation of data and metadata, caching and distribution of multimedia content and metadata over different types of networks and integration of the user as critical factor. Focus of the special session on Multimedia MetadataManagement & Retrieval (M3R 08) is put on multimedia metadata. Aspects include digital rights management, mobile multimedia, user context, metadata for content adaptation, bottom up and top down annotation, retrieval and extension of existing standards. 8 out of 11 submissions were selected for presentation on the conference and publication in the proceedings. The special session is organized by the Multimedia Metadata Community that has already organized a series of 7 successful workshops in the past taking place in Aachen, Berlin, Graz and Klagenfurt.
