Abstract
The FORTRAN 90 language definition has now been accepted as a national standard (ANSI) and as an international standard (ISO). This new standard includes a number of very significant additions to the language such as dynamic array location, recursion, single-step array operations, and pointer variables. The author evaluates the new FORTRAN standard particularly with reference to developing and implementing digital signal processing algorithms. FORTRAN 90 is a language with significant new capabilities for solving DSP problems.<>
