Abstract
Surface microstructure in an oxide confined VCSEL with a relatively large oxide aperture, with the basic idea being that the oxide aperture defines and stabilizes the transverse modes and the surface structure selects the fundamental mode, is used. VCSEL is based on an "inverted" design, with an extra thick top layer for an anti-phase reflection at the semiconductor/air interface. This reduces the mirror reflectivity.
