Abstract :
In this paper a new type of generator, the hybrid excitation rare earth permanent magnet synchronous generator (HESG), which can regulate the PM generator´s output voltage, is presented. This hybrid excited generator is composed of two parts: the main is the same as the PM generator; the other is just like the electrical magnetic generator. Both parts share one armature and the function of the electrical magnetic part is to regulate the HESG´s output voltage with small excitation input. The new generator´s construction, basic principles, performance and the design method are discussed. Two type generators have been designed and constructed. The comparison between the measured data and the calculated data shows that the calculation model with a program written in an advanced program language MATLAB, is reliable as well as practical and effective
