Abstract :
At present load demand is increasing tremendously, as a result of which the present system is to be expanded. Once the system expanded, system fault level increases. Under this increased fault level, existing switchgear becomes under rated and needs to be replaced by a new one, which incurred a huge amount of investment. Naturally the cost of power at consumer premises increases. In this paper a novel approach to limit the system fault current by using a passive magnetic fault current limiter has been discussed. This device helps to expand the system with existing switchgear and saves a lot of money to provide quality power at affordable price.
