Abstract :
Carbon nanotubes are grown, as opposed to being lithographically defined, with diameters between 1.3 - 100 nm and lengths of a few micrometers. They have the ´natural´ geometry required for field emission. The challenge is to develop a technology which allows the CNTs to be incorporated into a field emission cathode back plane together with the required gating and contact structures.
