Abstract
The characteristics of a planar motor are analyzed numerically. The volume integral equation method (VIEM) is used for the field calculation. The detent force of the planar motor is analyzed by using Maxwell stress tensor method and optimal size of the planar motor for minimizing the detent force is found. The back-EMF waveform of the planar motor is calculated and coil dimensions are optimized for making the back-EMF constant to be a constant value regardless of its positions. All the simulation results are verified by comparing with experimental results
