Abstract
Summary form only given, as follows. NO/sub x/ and SO/sub 2/ in the flue gas from power plants are the major sources of air pollution and acid rain. The pulsed corona discharge method shows encouraging results for the removal of NO/sub x/ and SO/sub 2/ gases based on small-scale experiments. The 120-kW high average power modulator for the industrial application of the pulsed corona process to remove flue gas has been designed and manufactured. This system is used for the production of an intense streamer discharge in a plasma reactor for the simultaneous removal of NO/sub x/ and SO/sub 2/ in the flue gases from the stack. It is required to have long lifetime and high reliability for commercial plant application because the downtime for the maintenance affects plant availability.
