Abstract :
Towards construction of low-carbon electric power systems, installed capacity of renewable energy generations is increasing in recent years. However, it may make the power system operations more difficult due to the uncertainty of the intermittent power generations. Power system stability such as transient stability and voltage stability is one of the issues of concern in the future. A potential countermeasure for the unforeseen instability phenomena is development of a response-based emergency control scheme using WAMS (wide area measurement system). Besides, use of power electronics-based controllers such as FACTS devices would also contribute to the stabilization of the grid. BESS (battery energy storage system) is one of the attractive target for the emergency control in the future since more capacity of BESSs will be installed on EHV (extra high voltage) networks for demand and supply matching in the normal state of the grid with a large penetration of PV and wind power generations.
