  • Abstract
One of the options for continuous and/or emergency power supply is Distributed Generation (DG). Advantages of DG are reliable and quality power, improved voltage profile, and reduced line losses. Most of the studies, presented in the literature, are focused on voltage profile improvement, minimization of system losses, etc. and are carried through load flow programs. The limitation of load flow study is static in nature. Dynamic behavior of the system during source outages and faults cannot be depicted much closer to reality. Moreover, limited work has been reported in the literature on DG for reliable and quality power in distribution systems. To provide reliable power with acceptable voltage and frequency, followed by quality, is the primary consideration for electricity power suppliers. This paper, proposes (synchronous generator based) DG for restoration of load voltage. Extensive simulation studies are carried to illustrate the dynamic behavior of system with and without DGs. It has been shown DGs can effectively maintain system voltages at the desired level, during source outages.
