Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. The magnetron oscillator is a crossed-field device used for the microwave oven, industrial heating and radar. Due to a complicated structure and the nonlinear beam-wave interaction in the magnetron cavity, three-dimensional simulation is used to investigate the characteristics of magnetron. A 10-vane strapped magnetron operating at 2.465GHz for the microwave oven is modeled using three-dimensional simulation code. The magnetron cavity consists of 10 vanes with straps connecting alternative vanes at both end, and antenna is coupled into the anode to extract the RP power and cathode with a hat to prevent the leakage current. The characteristics of resonance mode as important parameter in cavity structure are obtained using 3D EM simulation code, Microwave Studio and the oscillation condition is verified by Bunneman-Hartree curve for the /spl pi/-mode oscillation. A Particle-In-Cell(PIC) code, called as MAGIC3D, is utilized to investigate the performance and the output spectrum of the magnetron which is resulted from the interaction between the 4.3kV-330mA electron beam and the /spl pi/-mode field of the 10-vane strapped magnetron cavity. The formation of five spokes in the 10-vane magnetron confirms the /spl pi/-mode oscillation. To identify the noise components, the output microwave radiation of higher harmonic components of n-mode signal and higher order modes are measured using MAGIC3D) and clearly identified comparing with the measurement.
