Abstract
We review recent advances in development of fibre grating based optical biosensor devices and applications. The emphases will be on novel grating structures UV-inscribed in D-shape, single and multi mode, and multicore fibres and their post-sensitisation by HF-etching technique. Some of these devices have been used to detect concentration of hemoglobin protein in sugar solution, showing a sensitivity as high as 20 nm/1%
